4 simple tips to elevate your equestrian business's social media posts.
We have all seen them….
Social media posts that feature a beautiful and eye-catching photo of a horse and rider, you’re interested to see what this post is all about, who is this person, what do they do!
Then you read the caption. Instantly you are disappointed. The English language. Ruined. Drama unfolds in your mind…. You have so many questions.
(Or is it just me that has questions? I was an English major for a stint of time)
Does this person not know how to write a sentence?
What is this post even about?
Would I do business with this person, if I was looking for the services they offer?
I want to see people succeed! Social media is often a first impression of an equestrian business, make sure its a good one. Read away for a couple of tips to win over new followers.
Tip #1 - Keep it simple!
Social media is a very small glimpse into real life. Whoever is reading your post has a short attention span. You get a sentence or two to make an impact on whoever stumbles across your post- this can be 5 people, or it can be 5,000+ people. Do you want 5,000 people to read your post and be confused about your message? Absolutely not!
When writing a post think about one message you are trying to send. Do not lump your training, lesson, clinic availability, all new products and sponsors into one post. Do not tag sponsors in posts that about a different company's products.
One message per post, keep it simple.
Tip #2 - Use Correct Grammer!
Correct Grammer and sentence structure will always produce a polished and professional post. Commas and periods should make an appearance in your business posts.
If writing isn't your forte, don’t panic, there are numerous “grammar checkers” online, after all we’re riders, not English professors!
Check out Free Grammar Checker (Online Editor) for a little extra help in this department.
If you're a terrible speller like me, enlist google to help sort out any words you're unsure of. Preemptive text doesn't always get it right!
Tip #3 - When to write a long post...
Write a long "blog style post" only when you’re offering free advice on a topic that you are an expert on. This post should have a specific audience you are targeting such as followers on your specific page.
Copy writing for social media is different than writing a college essay. Don't forget to use the "return" key between each sentence or two. Long posts that resemble a typical paragraph are easy to scroll by; simply because the post looks cluttered and long. Our phone screens are small. Help your reader out by giving them a little extra space in your paragraph to simplify the esthetic.
Not everyone who likes your page visits it religiously, but you will have a few die-hard fans out and this group enjoys the knowledge and experience you are sharing with them.
Use a preview post to let followers know that you have a fun/cool/interesting/helpful information coming their way in the next day or two.
Tip #4 - Don't forget!
Always interact with comments, a simple thank you or emoji us enough!
Share press (online articles, blogs, press releases etc) onto your page that is are relevant to your business.
Interact with your sponsor social media posts.
Social Media is a tool that can help elevate how your business is perceived online.
